Danny Conroy

Nicholas Strouse speaks with Danny Conroy, Founder of AIM House (Action Intention Merge). After admitting to “never growing up,” himself, Danny takes up as ‘spokesman’ for the Millennial Generation. In his winning way, Danny mixes fact and anecdote to create a deeper understanding about Millennials… and casts a light on how Millennials may have made their mark, quietly… by inadvertently starting a counter-culture movement, in which they have chosen meaning over financial stature. Happily using himself as an example, Danny talks about ways we are forced to recognize and adapt to the needs of this population. Whether parenting with more openness and flexibility or actively engaging in a fair appraisal of digital communication, Danny makes it clear that–when it comes to Millennials–there is more than meets the eye.

Dr. Demitri Papolos

Nicholas Strouse speaks with Demitri Papolos, MD, author of The Bipolar Child. Dr. Papolos, Director of Research for the Juvenile Bipolar Research Association, talks about pioneering work using ketamine to treat children suffering with a common subtype of bipolar disorder, called Fear of Harm. In this compelling narrative, Dr. Papolos tells of the all too common phenomenon of children who go untreated or receive inadequate treatment for a severe, sometime incapacitating condition that roils the family. Dr. Papolos explains how evidence based research has led to a new understanding of a very old condition, and a novel treatment that has a dramatic effect on the illness.

WFC Teams Up With Westport House to Host a Professional Luncheon on 1/29

Westport Family Counseling teams up with Westport House to co-host a Professional Luncheon on Friday 1/29 at The Westport Inn.  The WFC Clinical Team will be speaking about their approach to addiction and trauma treatment.

The topic of the WFC presentation is, “Treating The Host, As Well As The Addiction:” Whether chemical or behavioral in nature, addictions cause deleterious changes to the brain, body, and mind. Moreover, it is often the case that the core issues leading to addictions involve challenging biopsychosocial factors, such as physical injuries or illness, complex trauma, and ongoing mental health issues. Because of the many variables that surround addiction, it is most often the case that adaptive, comprehensive treatment plans are necessary to optimize recovery. Learn about how various treatments are used, individually and together. Interventions such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), Family Therapy, Nutritional Counseling, and Mindfulness Fitness can be coordinated as a multi-pronged approach, which separates the addiction from the host. The result is a greater integration of body and mind, through support of the “whole” person.
